Welcome to Union-North United School District

I am very honored to serve as the Interim Superintendent for the Union North United School district this fall, while the board conducts their search for a permanent superintendent. I am a retired superintendent, having previously been a high school math teacher, counselor and principal. I also was in the role of assistant and deputy superintendent prior to becoming a superintendent. I loved each of these roles in public education.

I am married to my high school sweetheart, and we have three grown children, and four of the cutest grandkids you will ever see! We are so grateful that our two children that are the parents of the grandkids live near us and therefore, we get to have quite a few “Nana and Grandpa” sleepovers. Too fun!

I believe in public education with all my heart. I think it is the vehicle that has the possibility to transform our society. It is the main way that our democracy sustains itself. I feel so honored to have done my small share in helping to make public education the best it can be in the communities in which I have served. I hope to be able to do the same here at LaVille.

Please contact me at the district office if you have any questions or comments for me. Thank you for your support of this wonderful school district!

Greetings Lancer Families!

I’ve had the great pleasure of serving as your Superintendent since January 2012. I grew up on a dairy farm in a very similar community, graduating from Central Noble High School in 1985. After high school, I attended Purdue University, West Lafayette, and received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 1989.Thereafter, I accepted a position at Baugo Community Schools, Jimtown, where I spent the next twenty plus years as a teacher, coach and administrator. At Jimtown, I taught 6 th grade math and language arts for 13 years prior to becoming an administrator. I spent time as a principal at every level, K-12, a great preparation for becoming a Lancer.

I married my high school sweetheart, Darlene, and we have three children. Darlene has been a nurse in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Hospital since 1989. We have three wonderful children, Peyton, Madison, and Keegan. Peyton is 2 years older than Madison and Keegan, our twins. All three of them have recently graduated from college and are in the initial stages of their careers.

Since 2012, LaVille has been very fortunate to experience major building and grounds renovations as well as an increase in enrollment. This past spring and summer, the classrooms along the east side of the Jr. Sr. High have been getting a facelift. As a part of this project, the rooms will include individual heating and cooling units to better control the temperature, as well as updated lighting, ceiling tiles, wall coverings, and floor tile.  Restrooms at both buildings have been remodeled to give them a true Lancer flare. Athletic areas such as the tennis courts, track, football field, and main gymnasium have been restored to give our students some of the best facilities in the area to utilize and compete on. Our corporation-wide enrollment has increased over the past four years, from 1097 to approximately 1300 at the start of the 2019/2020 school year.

LaVille has a well trained and caring staff providing students with a small-school-feel while giving them an excellent, well-rounded education. LaVille students can get involved in a great number of activities ranging from their favorite sport to our wonderful fine arts programs. It is certainly a great time to be a part of our Lancer family!!!

Sincerely,
